Three More Cria on Alpaca Footpath 2008
20 May 2008
This week we have seen Vale produce a Tolkien boy whom we have named Valar (Spirit characters from Lord of the Rings).
Yesterday Fanta kicked off (finally!) with her overdue birth, and produced a gorgeous Chestnut Brown girl. Congratulations to John and Lynda Clarke who are the owners of Fanta, and have decided to name her first cria with them ‘Minnie’. Fanta and Minnie will be moving to Warwick, where they will live alongside the canal.
Today Hillary gave birth to a female who is yet to be named (but it will be inspired by Lord of the Rings as she is a daughter of Tolkien). She was a mammoth 9kg, and a lovely light fawn in colour. This girl took us all by surprise, us having checked the field only half and hour before we went out to find her running around, placenta on the ground and mother feeding happily.
The total herd at Toft is increasing rapidly- not just due to births but also due to taking on agistees ready for mating and shearing in a couple of weeks. We have gained five females and one cria at foot from Peter and Jane Alan of Quarry Farm alpacas. Today we picked up a further two females from Susan and Andrew Sweeney. The Toft Herd warmly welcomes all of our visitors- and hopes they enjoy their holidays at Toft!
